Biography


  Dave Turnball

 State Director 


Dave is a native Iowan, growing up in Waverly where he was a multi-sport athlete that earned 8 varsity letters in four sports. He attended Cornell College where he earned his Bachelor's degree while lettering in football and baseball. Dave also holds a Master's Degree from Truman State University. Before joining FCA staff in 1985, he spent 12 years teaching and coaching at the high school and small college levels. He lives in Indianola with his wife, Kathy, a life-long educator. He has two daughters and four "outstanding" grandchildren!

Steve is a graduate of Hoover High School in Des Moines.  A three sport standout in high school, he took his passion for basketball to Central College, playing four years and serving as captain his senior year while earning his degree in business management and systems management. After college, he joined the Wetiz Corporation as a programmer and then IT Operations Manager.  Steve was founder, Chief Operating Officer and President of Alliance Technologies from 1994 to 2016 when he sold the computer IT firm. Steve served as board chairman for FCA for several years.  Steve and his wife Penny live in Des Moines where they are active at Meredith Drive Reformed Church.  They have 2 grown kids.

Dave was born in Des Moines and graduated from Hoover High School in 1980. He played football at ISU for one year before transferring to Drake where he finished out his college career graduating in 1986. He married his high school sweetheart, Brenda, in 1984 and they have 3 grown kids:  Cassie, Molly and Sam, and a granddaughter, Bella.  After owning and operating several small businesses over the last 25 years with his brother and father, Dave is currently the Central Iowa Area Rep for FCA, serving coaches and athletes, helping them to make an impact in their schools for Christ.  Dave and Brenda live in Urbandale where they are active in the community and passionate about serving and trying to make an impact for his Kingdom. 

  


Luis Arredondo
 Des Moines Urban Area Rep. 


Luis was born in a small village in Durango, Mexico. He first came to the USA when he was 12. He has played soccer all of his life, representing Texas in the Olympic Development Program in the Regional tryouts, helping lead Simpson College to its only undefeated conference season in 2000 and playing Division 1 at Universidade De Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2001. Luis was called to vocational ministry at 19 as an assistant Pastor in Nuevo Progreso, Mexico. Luis spent 10 years in inner city Chicago while fnishing his Masters of Divinity at Moody Theological Seminary. He previously served in the missions department at Lutheran Church of Hope. Luis is married to Lindsey and have 3 children, Micah (4), Mateo (3) and Moises (1). They live in the urban area of Des Moines where they feel called and fully enjoy the diversity of the community.

Gary was born and raised in DeWitt, Iowa, where he graduated from Central High School in 1971. He participated in football, baseball and basketball. In 1978 he graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in English and received his education training there as well while playing soccer for the UI Club team.  After graduation he taught secondary Language Arts for 35 years in Lakota, IA (1), Cascade IA (18) and Albia IA (16) while coaching football (29 years 17 of which as a head coach), basketball (31), baseball (18) and has been the head soccer coach at Albia since 2001.  He has served as a high school huddle coach since 1985.
Gary is married to Sue and has four adult children Sarah (Gravert) Wood, Katherine Gravert, Jessica (Gravert) Nelson and Gabe Gravert.
 


RJ Sumrall 
Des Moines
Urban Rep

RJ Sumrall was born on February 22, 1986 in Honolulu, HI and grew up in Orlando, FL where he attended Mt. Avery Missionary Baptist Church.  He attended Winter Park High School and participated in track and football.   He currently has the most point scored in track in school history.  In football, he was awarded a full athletic scholarship to Iowa State University.  At Iowa State, RJ was introduced to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where he got saved on October 5, 2007. RJ came on staff with FCA in September, 2014. He serves coaches and athletes in the Des Moines inner-city schools:  Hoover, Lincoln, Roosevelt, North and East.  RJ is married to Steff and they have a 4 year old son named Jackson along with twins named Parker and Brecken.


Area Rep
Andrea grew up in West Des Moines and attended Valley High School where she participated in cross-country, basketball and soccer. She continued her soccer career as a scholarship athlete at Iowa State and Drake while being an active member of the FCA leadership team at both universities. After graduating from Iowa State in 2015, she obtained a master's degree in mental health counseling from the University of Arkansas. Andrea has a passion to encourage athletes in their relationship with Christ through building intentional relationships and consistently extending Christ's love regardless of athletic performance so they more fully understand their identity as a child of God. In her role as an Area Rep for FCA, Andrea works mainly with female athletes and coaches in the Central Iowa area. In her free time, she enjoys journaling in her hammock over a good cup of coffee or staying active through CrossFit, hiking and biking.

Trisha grew up in Norwalk and attended Northwestern College in Orange City attaining a BA degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Management. She started working for FCA in September of 2011 after moving back to the Des Moines area from Estes Park, CO where she had been in an administrative position for over 16 years with the YMCA of the Rockies.  Trisha lives in Waukee with her husband, Rob, and they have a eight year old daughter named Bethany.
